The Parent Coordinator

The Role of the Parent Coordinator

Parent coordinators are an important part of your school community. They are responsible for -

  • creating a welcoming school environment for parents
  • working with the principal to address parent issues and concerns at the school
  • conducting outreach to engage parents in their children’s education
  • strengthening parent involvement in their children’s education
As a member of the school staff supervised by the school principal, the parent coordinator partners with and supports the work of their Parent Association/Parent Teacher Association, School Leadership Team, community groups, and parent advisory councils.

Letter From the Parent Coordinator

 Dear Parents,

As a proud member of not only the PS11 family, but the Clinton Hill community as well, I relish each and every day that I am able to provide information, support and assistance for the benefit of you and your children. It may sound cliché to say it is an honor and a privilege to serve you, however in this particular case, I really couldn’t think of a more appropriate phrase to describe my feelings for my position.

My relationship with PS11 goes back to 1995 when my eldest daughter was a kindergarten student. I volunteered as a tutor, assistant basketball coach, PTA President, PTA Vice-President to name a few of my roles. I have been blessed to have formed strong and lasting bonds with families throughout the neighborhood. When the position of Parent Coordinator was created, it was and is a perfect match. I was in a position to share my experience as an elementary school parent, a leader and advocate. The aid and encouragement of the administration, the efforts and contributions of the teachers and other staff members and the inspiration of the active and enthusiastic PS11 parents, make it a pleasure to come to work each day.

I will continue to do my best to answer any questions or concerns you may have. My role is to assist you with any issues, provide information on navigating the sometimes confusing Department of Education, attempt to acquire resources for the school and our students, create collaborations with the surrounding community and act as the voice of the parents. I can be reached via email at rclement@schools.nyc.gov or by phone at 718-638-2661 or 347-563-5405.

Sincerely,
Clement Rand
