Arrival and Dismissal Times

It is imperative that students are picked up on time each afternoon (except those going on to after school enrichment/Virtual Y activities).  In the event that you are running late, always call the school to inform them of your expected arrival time.  If you are not able to pick up your child at the required time after school, please make sure a responsible adult will arrive in your place. Any adult picking up a child has to be on the blue card filled out in the beginning of the year and must show ID.   If not on the blue card, the parent must notify the school in writing.  This person must also show ID.

Uniform Policy

The PS11 uniform policy is navy blue bottoms and white shirts.  Uniforms are worn Monday thru Thursday; Friday is an optional non-uniform day.  On gym days, red shorts/pants and plain white t-shirts or PS11 logo t-shirts are worn.  PS11 t-shirts will be available for sale on the first day of school, the first PTA meeting and orientation days (see calendar for PTA meeting and orientation days).

Absence Policy

Consistent attendance is extremely important for a successful school year.  If your child is ill and unable to come to school, please send a note explaining the reason for the absence upon their return.  Encourage your child to keep up with homework assignments even when he or she is absent.  During a lengthy absence, please notify the school and check with your child’s teacher about the best way to complete assignments.

Toys and Electronics

All forms of toys and electronic devices are prohibited. Such items will be confiscated by school personnel. Parents must claim seized items in person at the school. PS11 school staff is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Cell Phones

The New York City Department of Education prohibits the usage of cell phones in public schools. If your child must carry a cell phone, it should be turned off and secured in their book bag. Cell phones can be confiscated by school personnel if used in school. If you have an emergency, contact the Main Office at 718-638-2661 to leave a message for your child. PS11 school staff is not responsible for lost or stolen cell phones.

Discipline and Conflict Resolution

The Chancellor’s Citywide Standards of Discipline and Intervention Measures (Blue Book) which outlines the discipline policies, as set forth by the Department of Education, is distributed at the beginning of every school year to all students. This document includes the DOE’s citywide “Discipline Code” as well as a “Student Bill of Rights.”

All staff members or adults in the building may serve as facilitators for conflicts occurring between students. If a problem cannot be resolved, it is then taken to the assistant principal or principal. Some teachers, staff and students have received training in the Resolving Conflicts Creatively Program (RCCP) which teaches its participants to find alternative and peaceful solutions to working out conflict.
